Caldwell Public Library Presents “Clara Barton: Angel of the Battlefield"

The Caldwell Public Library, 268 Bloomfield Avenue, Caldwell, NJ in celebration of Women’s History Month will present “Clara Barton: Angel of the Battlefield portrayed by Pat Jordan on March 9, 2016 at 6:30 pm. This program is free and open to the public. Reservations are required by calling 973-226-2837. The program is funded by the Horizons Speakers Bureau of the New Jersey Council for the Humanities, a state partner of the National Endowment for the Humanities.

Join us as we bring Women’s History to life! Clara Barton, portrayed here by Pat Jordan, was born on December 25, 1821, in Massachusetts. In 1852 she founded one of the first free public schools in New Jersey. During the American Civil War, she headed for the front lines, taking supplies to wounded soldiers and earning the title “Angel of the Battlefield.” She became a passionate supporter of the International Red Cross and established the first chapter of the American Red Cross. Clara’s example of indomitable strength, dogged determination and boundless good will is a model for all Americans. This program is produced by the American Historical Theater, a nonprofit organization specializing in first -person living history presentations.

Pat Jordan is an accomplished actor, operatic singer and historian. She has worked with the American Historical Theatre since 1992. She earned a degree in theatre from Villanova, training at Juilliard Opera Workshops, and has had years of experience with the German Theatre Guild and AHT, Ms. Jordan’s roles have included Shakespearean heroines, Victorian Music Hall comediennes, and opera divas. A devoted teacher, Pat has led history camps, taught at the Institute for the Gifted and at Bryn Mawr College. She was honored in 2009 by the Darlington Arts Center for her many years of teaching as part of the award-winning Chester Youth Theatre Outreach Program.

Pat Jordan has appeared at venues that include the White House Visitors Center, Library of Congress, Smithsonian Institute, National Archives, Franklin Institute, Peddler’s Village (Cock & Bull Restaurant), National Constitution Center, Union League, National Portrait Gallery, Deshler-Morris House and at Mount Vernon. Pat has performed this program in venues throughout the United States giving voice to the stories of courageous, inspirational women. Pat’s portrayals include such notable women as: Martha Washington, Mary Todd Lincoln, Clara Barton, Dorothea Dix, Louisa May Alcott, and Amelia Earhart.
