What's the difference between a thriller written by an attorney and one written by a typical writer? Turns out an attorney is a heck of a lot more detailed when it comes to the nitty-gritty of a giant business turned murderous!

I don't know about you, but I love a great escape, and reading a book that takes me on a journey is perfect! Escape is something I need nowadays, and reading wonderful books is helping me cope with our tough times.

I had the pleasure of meeting the author and attorney Paul Sangillo,  author of The Golden Prison, and working with him. So, I decided to read his book  (it's on Amazon.)

As a long-time attorney in New Jersey, Sangillo said he was inspired by the many "characters" he met as a young lawyer. I knew this book was going to take me on an adventure, and I was surprised at the great writing, the characters, plot, and shocks along the way.

I've never read any novel that really shares the crazy world of law school, where this story begins. I wasn't ready for the instant immersion into a place where sleep is a fairytale and working non-stop, under great duress, is par for the course. I won't share any spoilers here, but law students are overwhelmed with never-ending work and tremendous pressure. This story does not shy away from that sometimes brutal reality.

The characters were great, and I especially liked Jeff Rhodes. I was afraid his persona, which is really centered around being an honorable person who respects the law of justice, was going to be a cliche. I promise you this is NOT the case.

Again, I don't want to spoil the story for you, so you'll have to see what I mean.  Jeff Rhodes is hired at one of the most prestigious, large businesses in NYC, and what happens will shock you.

His entire belief in the rule of law and his own values face overwhelming temptations and danger.

You'll still be rooting for him.

The writing is crisp; the plot moves along easily and I found myself spending a Sunday afternoon reading the entire book.

I asked Sangillo if he was going to keep writing about these characters, and he said yes.

"I'm starting to work on a sequel," he said. "I love writing about these characters, and I'm excited about writing a series."

Hmmm. Now the only question that remains is who will play the lead, Jeff Rhodes?
