Montclair Firefighters responded to a two-alarm fire at 2:30 a.m. today. Dispatch received a fire alarm activation followed by numerous 9-1-1 calls for a fire at 110 High Street, Montclair. The Fire Department used both ladder trucks and its three pumper companies to combat the blaze.
Upon arrival firefighters found the porch area engulfed in flames with the fire extending up the walls to the interior of the home. After forcing entry through the front door the main body of the fire was extinguished in about 20 minutes.
Firefighters remained on scene for several hours to extinguish pockets of fire in the walls from the basement to the attic. This was an extremely hot fire, resulting in extensive heat damage throughout the house. No one was home at the time of the fire.
The Montclair Fire Investigation Team’s preliminary findings indicate that the fire was caused by an electrical short circuit in the porch area.
Mutual aid assistance was provided by West Orange, Bloomfield, and Cedar Grove at the fire scene. East Orange, Clifton and Orange Fire Department as well as a Montclair Reserve Engine provided coverage for the Township during the fire. No civilian or firefighter injuries were incurred.
