Sad news today as word reaches the public that United States representative Donald Payne has succumbed to his battle with cancer.
Payne had been fight colon cancer. He was 77 years old.
Though he was only recently diagnosed with colon cancer a few months ago, the disease moved quickly. He was flown back to New Jersey only last Friday on a helicopter, after being treated at the Georgetown University Hospital in Washington, D.C.
Payne is still the only (and first) African American congressman from New Jersey. He was elected into office 11 times, a truly great achievement for this gentle man.
