The Montclair Society of Engineers cordially invites you to a presentation by Sean Higgins of Columbia University's Lamont-Doherty Earth Observatory (LDEO) in Palisade, NY . He is a senior research scientist and director of the office of marine operations.

Dr. Higgins will explain how LDEO scientists conduct research at sea. He'll share some of the exciting discoveries they've made as they explore earth's last frontier since LDEO's founding in1949, from proof for the theory of plate tectonics to the oceans’ role in triggering abrupt climate change.

The mission of Lamont-Doherty is to seek fundamental knowledge about the origin, evolution and future of the natural world. LDEO scientists study the planet from its deepest interior to the outer reaches of its atmosphere, on every continent and in every ocean, to provide a rational basis for the difficult choices facing humanity.

Meetings of the MSE are free and open to the public.
