On April 5th, the cafeteria at James Caldwell High School was transformed into a Jazz Club for the annual “All District Jazz Spectacular” that featured the talented jazz bands from the Grover Cleveland Middle School and James Caldwell High School. Under the direction of music instructor Mr. Paul Larsen, the bands displayed a wonderful array of jazz music that highlighted student jazz musicians from all instrumental groups. The audience was treated to the sounds of artists such as Duke Ellington and Dave Brubeck. The high school band played, “When You Wish Upon a Star,” a prequel to the concert band’s performance trip to Disney World that took place later in the week. In addition to the band performances, the high school Madrigal Singers, directed by Mrs. Elsie Timpson, were on hand to sing such songs as, “Dream.”

The Jazz Spectacular is a crowd-pleasing event that shows off the hard work of both students and teachers in a relaxed and friendly jazz club-style atmosphere, with sweets and coffee provided by the Music & More Booster Club to make the event extra enjoyable. Jazz fans will have one more opportunity to enjoy the JCHS Jazz band this year. Their next appearance will be Thursday June 9th, at 7pm at the high school, during the JCHS Art & Technology Show.
