Shootout in Roseland - Local and State police save woman, teen from intruder with gun

A shootout, a hostage situation, an evacuation of a quiet suburban block and a negotiation that worked magic all created a wild night in Roseland.
“Everyone is okay,” noted a very tired Rosleand police chief Richard McDonough, at about 6:00 a.m this morning. “It ended about 3:01 this morning.”
At 9:52 p.m. last night, Rosleand police recieved a call from a distraught woman living at 29 Schweinberg Drive indicating there was an intrtuder in her home threatenting to kill her.
McDonough said she had a restraining order against this intruder, a male.
Rosleand police officers responded instantly to the scene.
Upon arriving, officers heard the woman screaming. Then, McDonough said, “the forced entry actor inside begain firing his weapon repeatedly. One of the Roseland officers fired his weapon.”
Two occupants were trapped inside, a 50 year old woman and a juvenile. Luckily, both escaped unharmed.
But the shooter was still inside, barricaded in the house and refusing to come out. The outside was secured by Roseland, Caldwell,West Caldwell, North Caldwell, Caldwell, Essex fells East Hanover police and the New Jersey State Police.
“A state police negotiator spoke to him (the actor/suspect) for almost 3 hours,” said McDonough. “He was talented enough to talk him out. He was then taken into custody.”
The intruder sustained a gunshot wound to his right side and was taken to Morristown hosptial. Once released he will be returned to Roseland for processing.
McDonough said he wants to especially thank the incredible New Jersey State Police emergency services, who showed up quickly and managed to end this situation safely.
“Thanks to the New Jersey State police emregency services unit,” he noted. “They were absolutely amazing.”
