No Pregnant Pause for this new, Expecting or New Mom App

A new App just launched, and is aiming to be a lactating mother’s or a mother-to-be’s best friend. Called MommyMeds™, this App is free through December 1 for you to upload via your Apple or Android smart device. (After December 1 it is only $2.)

Once you open the App, you will be able to do some significant research immediately.

There is a search by drug name button, which will help you check instantly if that prescription is safe to use while you are pregnant or breastfeeding. This is an extremely well thought out App, with solid research backing up the data - by doctors who work in the field every day.

You can also scan any product - even vitamins - to check if the product is safe.

Have a pregnancy or post pregnancy condition? This App can actually lead you specific products that may help you.

My favorite is the “Hot Topics” button ,where you can read about any emerging or popular topics about pregnancy and post-pregnancy issues.

The App is the brainchild one of the world’s leading experts in perinatal pharmacology, Thomas Hale, R.Ph.,Ph.D. and InfantRiskCenter (TTUHSC), which offers a very easy-to-read hub for all moms, lactation specialist and natal care professionals.

Along with their website, MommyMeds.com, this is the go-to site for your many questions.

With breastfeeding especially, you really need to know what foods and/or drinks you may want to avoid. The “A healthy mom makes a healthy baby,” InfantRisk Center Executive Director, Dr. Hale said. “There’s almost always something a pregnant mother can use safely, and we want to promote that with a variety of useful tools and information.”

Resources in the MommyMeds app include:

Glancing through the Hot Topics area, this reporter was instantly hooked. A great article about breastfeeding and the possible reduction of the risk for Sudden Death Syndrome caught my eye, and so did a fantastic piece about radiological procedures in pregnancy.

“MommyMeds™ is vital for pregnant and breastfeeding mothers,” said TTUHSC President Tedd L. Mitchell, M.D. “The app could become as synonymous with prenatal care as folic acid and ultrasounds. We commend Dr. Hale and the InfantRisk Center for their significant contribution to the health and safety of women and infants.”

MommyMeds™ is compatible with both the Android phone and Apple iPhone. The App is available in the App Store for free until December 1st. The app will continue to be available for $1.99 in the App Store and Google Play Store thereafter.
