A resident in Caldwell was surprised to find an intruder in his/her home, but that burglar ran away. Police arrived on the scene fast - and the burglar was apprehended within minutes about a block away.
This break-in last Thursday, however, may have been a simple crime of opportunity, since not all the windows were locked, The suspect entered the home around 1:00 p.m.
If you have screen windows remember to close your glass windows before you leave your home, and lock them.
Lock your doors.
Lock your car doors.
Police report there were no weapons or injuries involved in this break-in.
Also, no vehicle was nearby, so the 55-year old Newark resident may have taken a bus to Caldwell.
The moral of the story? Lock up everything when you leave your home or vehicle.
