Governor Phil Murphy kicked off his weekly Covid briefing by honoring US Navy Seaman Kyle Mullen, 24, who tragically died in training.

He then dove into the new rules of dealing with the pandemic in New Jersey.

Governor Murphy had some big news today about Covid-19 and relaxed new rules now that the Omnicron numbers have gone down and vaccinations are ongoing.

Living with Covid-19 is all about the pivot.

"We're not going to manage Covid to zero," he said.

By Monday, Murphy said, the "statewide school mask mandate will be lifted and will also lift this mask mandate for all schools."

In Child Care settings, the mask mandate will also be lifted on March 7.

The governor said the Department of Health will update guidance to help schools know whether or not to implement maks wearing in schools, depending upon cases of Covid in each school and/or school district.

If anyone chooses to wear a mask, this is fine. If anyone bullies anyone wearing a mask, the governor said there would be consequences.

Vistors and others will not be required to wear masks inside schools as of March 7.
