Water Work Completed in Montclair but BOIL ALERT is still on

Posted

A water alert on Monday in Montclair recommended boiling water in town, and as of today, Tuesday, the work has been completed to correct the problem.

However, a boil water alert is still in effect.

Yesterday,PSE&G notified the township that water was introduced into some of its gas mains. Crews are now in the process of de-watering gas mains on: Central Avenue, James Street, Midland Avenue and Valley Road.

Heating of homes on these streets may be impacted during the de-watering process.

A BOIL WATER ALERT IS IN EFFECT FORALL CUSTOMERS IN THE FOLLOWING AREAS (see map and affected properties list):

North Mountain Avenue to the Verona line

South Mountain Avenue to the Verona line to the West Orange border

Upper Mountain Avenue to the Cedar Grove line, including Montclair State University

After repairs are completed, water samples will be taken -- results take 24 hours. A potential or actual threat to the quality of water being provided to you currently exists. As a precaution, we are implementing a Boil Water Advisory until testing of the water supply is deemed satisfactory. While this is a precautionary measure, it is required procedure when a pressure drop occurs and the Water Bureau is following main break guidance by the NJ Department of Environmental Protection.
