United Way Fair Connects Those in Need to Financial Resources

United Way of Northern New Jersey is teaming up with community partners to offer a free financial resource fair on Wednesday, March 28 that will connect area residents to local agencies for financial assistance and to free financial education.

The financial stability resource fair will take place from 10:30 a.m. to 8:30 p.m., at the United Way building, located at 60 South Fullerton Avenue in Montclair. A light lunch or dinner will be provided to those who register in advance.

The fair will help residents who are struggling to make ends meet by putting them on a path toward financial stability. United Way research shows that nearly 19 percent of local households are in poverty or qualify as ALICE (Asset Limited, Income Constrained, Employed) — working but unable to afford the basics.

During the event, representatives from 20 local agencies will be available to discuss affordable child care, adult education, employment preparation, banking options, health insurance, legal assistance, affordable housing and mentoring options.

In addition, residents can choose to attend financial stability workshops that will cover a range of topics such as savings strategies, managing one’s credit, life insurance, identify theft and Medicaid. The hour-long workshops will be presented from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m.

Three volunteer career coaches through United Way’s free career coaching program also will be available for a limited number of one-on-one sessions.
