This year’s 4th grade students of Paramus' Ridge Ranch and Memorial Elementary School (next year’s 5th grade at East Brook) are holding a fundraiser for those affected by the 5th grade bus tragedy.

The students will stage a fundraiser on Saturday, May 26th in the Paramus Elks Lodge Parking Lot from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Students, parents and volunteers will be selling T-shirts, car magnets and lawn signs.  All proceeds will be donated to the East Book Middle School Family and Community through Paramus Children's Health Foundation.

Their goal is to raise $100,000.

The Paramus Children’s Health Foundation was initiated to provide financial assistance to Paramus families with children who have a severe illness or injury which results in economic hardship.

This foundation was inspired by the people of Paramus, who rallied together to help the families of TJ Francin and Thomas Caruso, after they were diagnosed with a severe illness.

This is a charitable foundation, which is tax-exempt under IRS code 501(c)3.

As previously reported, a school bus on a field trip on May 18, carrying a packed bus filled with teachers and 5th grade students from Paramus, crashed on Route 80. Teacher Jennifer Williamson and 10-year old 5th grade student Miranda Vargas were killed in the horrific crash.

The bus, which was reported to be driven by a driver who allegedly was trying to make an illegal U turn on the highway, crashed violently into a dump truck crumpling and injuring 43 people and killing a teacher and 5th grade student from East Brook Middle School in Paramus.
