********Motor Vehicle Investigation – Chestnut Street – During routine patrol, Officers were alerted to a parked vehicle that had an expired registration. While arranging for the vehicle to be towed off the roadway, the owner walked up to the vehicle. Carlos Murillo-Bazurto, 25, of Elizabeth, was placed under arrest for an outstanding warrant, transported to Headquarters without incident, able to post the appropriate bail, informed to contact the Municipal Court, and advised of the release process for his car prior to his released.

********Criminal Mischief – Brookfield Avenue – Headquarters received a report of a past occurred criminal mischief. The victim parked their vehicle and when they returned they observed several scratches on the side of their vehicle. There were scratches over the passenger side rear window and the front fender. There also appeared to be letters scratched in the side. An estimate was going to be obtained to determine the cost to repair the vehicle.

*******Suspicious Person – Passaic Avenue – Officers were dispatched to the area regarding a report of a suspicious male sitting on the side porch of a residence. The male, was wearing a sleeveless white shirt, blue pants, and dreadlocks. The man stated that they got off the #13 bus and was walking to the park and became tired and out of breath. He refused medical treatment. A check of his identity found that Justin Conover, 28, of Newark, had an outstanding warrant out of Hoboken and he was taken into custody. Hoboken PD was contacted and they responded to take custody of Mr. Conover.

*******Theft – Franklin Avenue – Response was made to the area regarding the report of a theft. The victim stated that they put their wallet down on the counter and observed a black female wearing all black put the pink Michael Kors wallet in their purse, leave the restaurant, and then put the purse in the trunk of her vehicle. Officers approached the actor who verbally admitted to Detectives that she took the wallet. The victim was given their wallet back and stated that nothing was missing. Patricia Neal, 47, of Newark, was taken into custody, charged with Theft, given a copy of her summons, advised of the Court date, and released without incident.

*******Burglary – Kingsland Street - Police were dispatched to the scene of a burglary. The victim returned home and noticed lights on in their home that they knew were not left on when the left earlier. At the same time, the homeowner noticed a white GMC Savana van with NY license plates sitting across the street with its flashers on. Officers secured the residence and discovered that the back door had been kicked down and the home ransacked. The Detective Bureau responded to the scene and processed. Investigation to continue.

*******Suspicious Incident – Park Avenue – Victim reported to Officers that they parked their vehicle in the parking lot of 44 Park Avenue and when they returned to their vehicle and started driving they realized they had a flat tire on the front driver’s side. The owner believed this may be an act of criminal mischief, however the officer as unable to observe any damage.

********Identity Theft – Headquarters received a report of identity theft from the victim who stated they received a notification regarding their iPhone being hacked and to contact the “iTunes Support Line.” When they contacted support, they were asked to provide their IEM number and the representative advised that their phone had been hacked overseas. Additionally, the victim was instructed to purchase iTunes gift cards to pay for restoring their phone to a safe state. Two iTunes gift cards in the amount of $200.00 were purchased and then the victim was instructed to buy 3 more for a total of $300.00. The victim became skeptical of the ongoing process and asked for the representative’s ID and name. They then stopped interacting with the support service and received numerous calls from unknown numbers.

**********Identity Theft – Headquarters received a report regarding identity theft. The victim stated that they were contacted by Verizon alerting them that an unknown party used their account in the state of New York to purchase a phone for $200.00. Verizon has since canceled the purchase and refunded the amount into their account.
