2/24/18

********Illegal Dumping – Lakeside Drive – Response was made to the area regarding a report of illegal dumping. The homeowner stated that several garbage bags were left on the hill behind their backyard. No one was observed leaving the garbage bags and the caller was advised to contact Nutley PD if they should observe any further illegal dumping. The Health Department was advised to dispose of the waste.

*******Fraud – Headquarters received a report from a victim of fraud. They stated that they received a call from someone claiming to be their “grandson” saying that he was involved in an accident with his two friends, and they were in the Dominican Republic and needed $9,600.00 because the Police found drugs in the car and would take him to jail if the money was not wired, and to please not tell anyone. The victim responded to their bank and advised the teller that they needed money wired to a party in Bronx, NY. Additionally, the victim spoke with a “Sgt. Johnson,” from the US Embassy, who instructed the victim on who and where to wire the money. After not hearing back from the “grandson,” the victim left a message for “Sgt. Johnson” who returned the call and advised that he was trying to do all he could, but he would need another $8,900.00 wired to the same account. After the second request the victim became suspicious and immediately returned to the bank to report the fraud. The financial institution will be investigating the incident.

********Motor Vehicle Stop – River Road – Officers initiated a motor vehicle stop which resulted in the arrest of the driver David Sanchez-Cangaz, 19, of Nutley, for an outstanding warrant out of our jurisdiction. He was transported to Headquarters without incident, able to post the full bail amount, issued a motor vehicle summons for Failure to Observe a Traffic Control Device, advised to contact the Nutley Municipal Court to set a new Court date, and then released from Police custody.

*********Suspicious Incident – Milton Avenue – Response was made to the area regarding past occurred damage. The victim stated that two tires on their vehicle had been slashed. Officers observed the rear passenger side tire did appear to have a puncture mark on the side wall of the tire. The victims were instructed to contact Police if any other incidents were to occur.

2/26/18

**********Motor Vehicle Stop – Park Avenue – A motor vehicle stop was initiated which resulted in the arrest of John Santander, 18, of Garfield. He was transported to Headquarters without incident, issued summonses including throwing debris from vehicle, and operation of motor vehicle while in possession/narcotic. Additionally, the Essex County Prosecutor's Office was briefed on the matter and approved the following charges: Possession of Marijuana under 50 grams, and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia. Mr. Santander was advised of his mandatory Court date and released from custody. All evidence was secured in the evidence room.

*******Criminal Mischief – Ravine Avenue – Patrol units observed graffiti that had been spray painted on the exterior wall on the south side of the field house located in Booth Park. The graffiti was photographed, and the Nutley Parks Department was notified of the situation.

******Criminal Mischief – East Centre Street – Officers responded to the area in regards to a report of criminal mischief to auto. Upon arrival, the victim stated that someone keyed their vehicle causing extensive damage. The victim was advised to contact their insurance company and notify them of the incident. No further Police action.

2/27/18

********Criminal Mischief – Warren Street – Officers responded to the area on a report of criminal mischief. The victim stated that they found the two tires on the right side of both of their two vehicles were flat and that the air pins were ripped out of each of the four tires. The vehicles were parked side by side.

*********Three instances of Criminal Mischief – New Street – Officers responded to the area regarding criminal mischief done to three vehicles. The victim’s stated that their vehicles were scratched, damaged, and side fenders due to a huge crowd of students gathering for the appearance of a celebrity, behind the High School, and then climbing on top of the cars to see. Each victim provided their vehicle insurance information and were advised of how to obtain the Police reports for their records.

2/28/18

**********Criminal Mischief – Vincent Place – Headquarters received a report regarding criminal mischief. The victim stated there had been damage done to their vehicle during the after school hour yesterday. There had been an appearance by a celebrity that created a huge crowd to gather. The spectators proceeded to climb on top of cars to watch the appearance causing damage to the hood and driver’s side fender of the vehicle. The insurance information of the victim was taken and they were instructed on how to obtain a copy of the Police report.

********Theft - San Antonio Avenue – Officers met with the victim who stated that they received a notice from the NJ Turnpike Authority that a vehicle with their license place committed an EZ pass violation. The license plate was noticed missing on 2/21/18. The victim was advised to surrender the one remaining plate and once that plate is surrendered they can enter the missing one as stolen. No further action at this time.

3/1/18

******Theft – Park Avenue – Headquarters received a report of theft. A white or light skinned Hispanic male, wearing a black sweatshirt, dark colored pants, and a tan hat was seen taking two packages from the vestibule and putting them into a black cloth bag. The Detective Bureau was advised and arrived on scene to take over the investigation.

*******Burglary – Oakridge Avenue – the homeowner contacted Headquarters to report a past occurred burglary. The victim stated while walking around the exterior of their home they noticed the strike plate of a door laying on the ground. A check of the door knob found it to be locked, but was able to be opened with ease. Officers noticed debris on the stairwell and entered the basement to find that their boiler was no longer there. It was described as blue in color, measuring approximately 2’6” W by 2’6” D, and was brand new. Approximate value was $1,500.00. It was the only item removed from the home. The Detective Bureau was contacted and arrived at the scene to assume the investigation.

3/2/18

********Tree Limb Down – Cook Road – Officers responded to the area regarding a tree limb down. The tree located between curb and sidewalk had uprooted and the entire tree fell. The tree took down a cable wire which was secured by Officers. The tree did not appear to cause any damage to the house but did cause damage to the front lawn. Nothing further.

*******Theft – Washington Avenue – Upon arrival Officers were met by the business owner who stated they were missing a NJ Inspection sticker. It was not noticed until the numbers were reviewed after the tickets before and after had been used. Nothing further.

*******Property Damage – several incidents of damage from falling and windblown debris were reported throughout town. The winter rain/snow storm was responsible for several tree limbs and wires found damaged during the inclement conditions.
