12/9/17

*********Fraud – Headquarters received a report regarding theft of identity. The victim stated that after running their credit check they noticed a credit card that was opened in their name. The card was from Neiman Marcus and the charges totaled close to 5,000 made online. Another from Gap and had charges totaling close to a $1000 Gap was also contacted and stated they canceled the account and are opening an investigation. A fraud alert was put on the victim’s credit.

*********Theft from Vehicle – Officers were flagged down by a party who stated they just noticed that someone had stolen their handicap placard from their motor vehicle. Along with other items that were inside police are investigating.

********Suspicious Incident – Oakcrest Place – Response was made to the area regarding a suspicious male party that was pacing back and forth speaking on their cell phone. Additionally, the actor rang the doorbell of a nearby home while opening the storm door and peering through the glass of the exterior door. An SUV pulled up and the party entered the passenger seat. The male was described as a white male, approximately 5’10”, with a beard. Someone asked both men if they rang the doorbell and both denied the incident and made a derogatory comment before driving off. The driver was a white or Hispanic male with a beard. The SUV was described as a newer model, possibly burgundy Ford Explorer.

******Theft – Coventry Drive – Officers responded to the area regarding a theft. The homeowner stated that they ordered a Mint Gold Bar worth $1,319.99. According to the internet tracking, the item was delivered to the front door by the United States Postal Service. The premises were checked and the item was not received. Detective Bureau is investigating.

********Property Damage – Stanley Avenue – Police and Fire responded to the area regarding a report of a collapsed ceiling. All three residents of the home were safely outside and unharmed. Nutley Fire evaluated the residence and determined it to be structurally sound and able to be re-entered by the residents. No further assistance was requested at this time. Code Enforcement was advised of the incident.

*********Theft – Hilton Avenue – Headquarters received a report of a possible theft. The victim should have received 3 Western Union Checks totaling $1,400.00 that were tracked through the United Postal Service which were not received. The Postal Service was advised and are conducting their own investigation. Unknown where the checks may have been intercepted.

********Motor Vehicle Theft – Yantacaw Place – Response was made to the area regarding a report of a stolen motor vehicle. The victim stated that they parked the vehicle in front of their home and when they returned to it, the car was no longer where it was left. The vehicle was entered as stolen by dispatch and the surrounding area was checked with negative results.

*********Criminal Mischief – River Road – Officers were contacted to report to the area on a report of criminal mischief. The victim stated that while stopped at the traffic light at Park Ave and River Rd a male threw a full cup of coffee at their vehicle. The victim stated they had no idea why the male would do something like that and they never saw them before. There was no description available, but he was traveling on foot and not in a vehicle. The victim wished to document the incident for insurance purposes.

********Theft – Centre Street – response was made to the area in regard to a report of a theft. The victim stated they put a clothing item on display just outside the door to the establishment and noticed it was gone after dark. The item is described as a gray hooded zip up sweatshirt with a floral applique on the arm. The area was checked with negative results.

*********Property Damage – Washington Avenue – While in the area a party approached Officers to state that their vehicle’s front windshield was cracked and damaged while getting a car wash. The manager was advised and suggested the victim contact the owner. The victim wished to have the incident documented for insurance purposes. No further police action taken at this time.

12/14/17

******Criminal Mischief – Prospect Street – Response was made to the area regarding a report of criminal mischief. The victim told Officers that someone cut two strands of Christmas lights in front of their residence for 2 consecutive nights. The lights were clearly cut with a cutting device near its power source, preventing the rest of strand to power on.

*********Fraud – Headquarters received a report of a fraud incident. The victim stated that they received an email today from AT&T alerting them that a silver 64 GB iPhone X, valued at $999.00, was being shipped, and that the victim agreed to be billed $33.34 per month. AT&T was contacted and the purchase was canceled before being billed. No other personal or credit card information has been used at this time. The victim was advised to contact Headquarters should any other purchases be made using their personal information.

******Theft – Harrison Street – Officers responded to the area regarding a theft. The victim stated that they received 3 emails indicating that their packages were delivered and when they went to retrieve them the packages were found opened and rummaged through. Upon further inspection it was found that the packages that actually were left behind belonged to a resident of Bloomfield. The victim’s packages were believed taken and are now missing. The victim’s packages were believed to be worth approximately $125.00. Detective Bureau was notified and will be taking over the investigation.

******Theft – Ravine Avenue – A resident called Headquarters to report they found a package at their curb line. Upon Police arrival it was observed that the packed had been opened, emptied, and belonged to a resident in the area. Due to the similarity of the incident, and another resident finding packages of another left on their doorstep, The Detective Bureau set out a bulletin to all surrounding agencies of the suspicious activity. Investigation is ongoing.

******Suspicious Incident – Response was made to the area regarding the receipt of suspicious phone calls from an unknown number. The caller stated that they received two voice mails from a number they did not recognize that appeared to be from an automated device leaving distasteful messages.

******Fraud – Headquarters received a report regarding fraudulent credit card charges. The victim stated that their card was used without their knowledge of authorizations for three transactions at various stores totaling approximately $400.00. The financial institution has cancelled the account and provided a new card to the victim. Additionally, they consented to be entered into the Identity Theft Victim national file. Nothing further.

12/15/17

**********Two (2) Thefts – Cleveland Avenue – Officers responded to the area for a report of theft. The homeowner stated that they had three packages delivered (contents worth approximately $300) and the boxes contained items they did not order and 1 box was found empty and addressed to a party living across town. The other victim was contacted, (it seems four (4) dress shirts valued at $100.00 were missing from their box) and advised of the situation. All parties involved were in the process of contacting their credit card companies to advise them of the incidents and to see if refunds were possible. A canvass was made of the area with negative results. The Detective Bureau was advised of the incidents and will be taking over the investigations.

******Theft from Vehicle- Spring St. Police responded to Spring Street when resident reported their vehicle had been entered. The interior of the vehicle had been ransacked and actor made off with several items including an I Phone. Police are investigating this and several other similar incidents. (Vehicle was unlocked.)
