9/2/17

*********Animal Complaint – Coeyman Avenue – Headquarters received a call regarding a dog at large. Officers arrived in the area and observed the dog, described as very large, with black/brown stripes, English Mastiff breed, barking very loudly on the front lawn without a leash. The owner arrived and secured the dog and was advised of the complaint. A Township Ordinance was issued for Running At Large Prohibited.

******Criminal Mischief – River Road – the victim reported finding their vehicle with a golf ball sized fracture on the driver side windshield, and multiple dents in the metal trim located adjacent to the windshield glass. The vehicle was parked in its space and was seen the day before with no damage.

*******Theft – Highfield Lane – Patrol unites responded to the area on a report of a past occurred theft. Upon arrival, the victim stated that a Daahun D-15 folding bicycle, with an approximate value of $500, was taken from the garage. There was no forced entry or other items reported missing. No further information could be provided on the bicycle. The area was checked for any surveillance cameras and canvassed for anyone that may have seen anything pertinent to the incident with negative results.

*******Criminal Mischief – Kierstead Avenue – A resident reported that their front driver’s side tire of their vehicle was found flat and that a neighbor had stated they witnessed a party near their vehicle during a previous evening. Also observed was damage to the front fender in front of both tires that appeared new. The description of the party seen by the vehicle was a Caucasian male, wearing a white t-shirt and carrying a flashlight. The neighbor did not observe the party causing damage to the vehicle. No further action at this time.

9/3/17

*******Shoplifting – Harrison Street – Multiple units responded to the area business on a report of a shoplifting incident. The store manager stated that a female party entered the store and grabbed a few items from the cosmetic aisles. The female was described as a black female, short dark hair, gray shirt, dark pants and glasses, who entered a blue 4 door sedan and traveled east bound on Harrison Street after exiting the store. A police check of the area yielded negative results in locating a party matching that description. The manager provided a surveillance video to Officers and entered it into evidence. No further action taken.

*******Criminal Mischief – Princeton Street – the victim reported that they noticed egg yolk on their house from an apparent egging overnight. There was no permanent damage reported.

9/4/17

*******Suspicious Person – Centre Street – Officers observed a white male who appeared to be staggering near the corner of Franklin Ave. and Centre St. and stopped to speak with them and offered him medical attention which they declined. The party, Robert Hart, 47, of Nutley, was checked and found to have an outstanding warrant out of Harrison and was taken into custody. He was able to post the appropriate bail, was advised to contact Harrison Court, and released without incident.

******Fraud – Headquarters received a report regarding an incident of fraud. The victim stated that they were looking on Craigslist to rent a vacation house and found one that asked for a $500.00 deposit through Money Gram to secure the reservation. The owner was emailed and the victim used their credit card for a Money Gram in the amount of $450.00 which was sent. Since that time the victim has been unable to make contact with the owner and unable to put a stop payment on their credit card for the charge. Officers advised the victim to use reputable realtors or vacation rental sites in the future and to always avoid transactions asking for money grams or money orders.

********Property Damage – King Street – Officers responded regarding a report of property damage. The resident stated that their vehicle was damaged due to a neighbor’s outdoor umbrella that had landed on their vehicle due to the high winds just prior to the incident. The neighbor was advised of the incident and would be following up with their homeowner’s insurance. Both parties were advised of how to obtain a copy of the report for their records.

9/6/17

******Fraud – Headquarters received a report regarding a fraud. The victim stated that they issued a final check to an employee for $423.82 and the check was deposited via mobile and the funds withdrawn from the business account. It was then noticed that the funds were withdrawn a second time from the business account and deposited in another account in Minnesota. The financial institution was notified and looking into the incident. No further information could be provided.

**********Suspicious Person – Centre Street – A call was received regarding a male party sleeping in a porta john. Officers arrived on scene and tried to make contact with the male party that locked himself inside the porta john with negative results. They were able to unlock the door and found a male party, fully clothed, who appeared intoxicated, slurring his words and having difficulty standing up on his own. Nutley Emergency Rescue Squad arrived and determined that the male party’s level of intoxication was to the point of being a danger to himself and was transported to the hospital for evaluation. Upon release from the hospital, Luis Santiago, 29, of Belleville, was charged with Disorderly Conduct, advised of his Court date and released from custody. No further information at this time.

9/7/17

*********Criminal Mischief – Franklin Avenue - Patrol was directed to the area regarding a report of criminal mischief. The business owner stated that they noticed the side flood door handle of their business broken. The door did not have any signs of forced entry and was still operable. The surrounding doors and windows were checked with negative results of attempted entry. The owner was advised to contact Nutley Headquarters should they have any further information. The Detective Bureau was advised of the incident by desk personnel.

9/8/17

**********Theft/Motor Vehicle Theft – Walnut Street - Officers were directed to the area regarding a motor vehicle theft. The business owner stated that when they arrived to work this morning two motor vehicles, one construction roller, and various tools were missing from the parking lot. The evening before, all vehicles were secured and the gate lock, and this morning the gate was wide opened with the lock missing and chain hanging on the gate. The approximate value of everything missing is $107,000.

Officers canvassed the area and located possible areas surrounding the crime scene where there were was video surveillance. All items with a serial number were entered stolen in the system. Later that day the victim informed police that a vehicle locate device on the equipment located them, where he responded and took possession of his equipment.
