As another blast of winter is forecasted for the state later today into Monday morning, NJ TRANSIT anticipates regular weekend service for the remainder of the day Sunday and regular weekday service for Monday, March 4th on its rail, bus and light rail, as long as weather conditions permit safe operation. Access link paratransit service will be operating with service adjustments due to the weather. Parts of New Jersey are forecasted to experience heavy snow and icy roadway conditions with rapid freezing of wet surfaces. The possibility of strong, gusty winds could impact the overhead wires on rail and light rail service.

Systemwide Cross-Honoring in Effect on March 4th: To give customers additional travel options during the expected winter weather conditions, NJ TRANSIT will offer full systemwide cross-honoring for the entire service day on Monday, March 4, enabling customers to use their ticket or pass on an alternate travel mode—rail, light rail or bus—including private bus carriers.

For example, customers who normally take the bus from Rutherford to the Port Authority Bus Terminal may use their bus pass or ticket on the train from Rutherford to New York Penn Station. Customers using their tickets or passes to travel to a destination other than the destination printed on their original ticket will be subject to the appropriate additional fare if applicable.

Bus service to/from Warwick, N.Y., will originate/terminate at West Milford Park & Ride due to weather conditions. Bus 196 will operate on a snow detour and will not operate on Skyline Drive. NJ TRANSIT rail will cross-honor Bus Route Nos. 196/197 passes and tickets on the Port Jervis Line trains to/from Harriman, Tuxedo and Sloatsburg starting at 8 p.m. Sunday, March 3.

NJ TRANSIT will have personnel and assets in position to address any issues that may arise during or after the storm, which could include downed wires or trees.

NJ TRANSIT’s Emergency Operations Center (EOC) will be open and closely monitoring weather forecasts and conditions as the storm develops. Key personnel will monitor any impacts to the system throughout the duration of the storm.

Customers are advised to use extreme caution around bus stops, stations and facilities as slippery conditions may exist. Customers should also build extra travel time into their schedules as residual delays and some cancellations may occur from the residual effects of the storm.

Snow fighting supplies and equipment have been dispatched across the state and are ready to be deployed as conditions warrant.

The corporation is preparing to minimize disruptions and delays to the extent possible. Rail and light rail crews and equipment are on standby to quickly respond to downed trees, power outages or other issues that may arise. In addition, NJ TRANSIT will be positioning locomotives at strategic locations across the rail system to rapidly respond in the event of a disabled train.

Customers are advised of the following:

Systemwide: NJ TRANSIT plans to operate regular weekday service on Monday, March 4 with systemwide cross-honoring in effect. Depending on the impact of the storm, NJ TRANSIT may need to modify service as conditions change.

Bus Service: While every effort will be made to continue operating bus service throughout the state, customers may experience delays or detours on their routes in the event of extreme winter weather conditions. Customers are advised to plan accordingly and anticipate disruptions to bus service. Bus service to/from Warwick, N.Y., will originate/terminate at West Milford Park & Ride due to weather conditions. Bus 196 will operate on a snow detour and will not operate on Skyline Drive.

Access Link Service: Service for Regions 2, 4, 5 and 6 will be suspended as of 9 p.m. Sunday, March 3. On Monday, March 4, service in Regions 4, 5 and 6 will have a delayed start at 12 p.m. Region 2 service will operate on a regular weekday schedule on March 4.
