Montclair Announces 2018 July 4th Festivities

Posted

Montclair's annual 4th of July Celebration has been a time-honored tradition for more than 60 years. This year is special: we are celebrating the 150th Anniversary of the founding of Montclair. In that spirit, the theme for this year's parade will honor all that makes Montclair special and unique and will mark the Township's sesquicentennial. Parade participants and floats are encouraged to recognize the Township’s history in their decorations and costumes. We're throwing a giant birthday party for Montclair and the USA!

Our energetic parade reflects the creativity, values and diversity of our community. A town-wide picnic follows at Edgemont Park with food and festivities for every age. The evening is topped off with a spectacular fireworks display at the Yogi Berra Stadium on the campus of Montclair State University. The volunteers of the 4th of July Committee work hard all year to preserve this Montclair tradition.

The Parade takes place on July 4th, beginning at 11am, rain or shine, at Bloomfield Avenue (at South Fullerton Ave). The route proceeds to Midland Avenue, north to Watchung Avenue, west to Valley Road and south to Edgemont Park. The town picnic will immediately follow the conclusion of the parade and will be held at Edgemont Park. Fireworks will take place that night at Yogi Berra Stadium on the campus of Montclair State University. In the event of inclement weather, the Township will determine if the town picnic and/or fireworks will proceed. There is no rain date for the Town Picnic or Fireworks in the event of cancellation.

The 4th of July Committee is asking for the community's help to keep this decades-long tradition alive. Whether you are new to town or have family dating back generations, we rely on your generous contributions to fund the programming on July 4th. Every donation helps us make Montclair's festivities the most memorable event of the summer season. Our gratitude will be expressed through acknowledgements in local publications, on social media, on the Township website and on TV 34. Donations can be made at GoFundMe.com/MontclairJuly4
