Joanne Ciervo’s World of Black and White to Exhibit at the Montclair Public Library

The Montclair Public Library’s popular art series continues with the “World of Black and White” an exhibit of realistic pencil drawing by the talented artist Joanne Ciervo. This incredible exhibit will be on view during Library hours from May 1 through May 30 in the gallery space of the Main Library, 50 South Fullerton Avenue, Montclair, NJ 07042.

Joanne Ciervo will be the Library’s featured artist in the Montclair BID’s Spring Art Walk on May 18, 2018, in the Library’s gallery, beginning at 6:00 PM.

Joanne's path to creating these works was not a traditional or typical one. Before discovering the creative outlet of drawing, she spent over 40 years in the business world beginning as a secretary and working up to various managerial positions for a fortune 500 company. At the same time she navigated the challenges of being a wife and mother and being very active in her community. She loved decorating her home for the holidays and creating games and activities for her two daughters, Clare and Emily. Joanne always dabbled in various forms of painting and sketching and in 2008 her husband Sam encouraged her to enroll in a drawing class at the Wayne Adult School, taught by Jerry Winick.

Drawing allows Joanne to drift into another space and relax, while providing an alternate way to view the world with new eyes. She continues to take drawing classes at Jerry's studio, Pencilworks, in Little Falls, who challenges her to explore new subjects and techniques as reflected in these works.

Joanne works in the Adult School Department of the Montclair Public Library scheduling classes and working with teachers and students. She also volunteers at Library and MPL Foundation events and at the Help Desk on the first floor of the library.
