Grand Opening for New Montclair Parklet Across from 217 Glenridge Avenue on Friday, Sept 28 at 6 pm

On Friday, September 28 at 6 pm, Mayor Robert Jackson, BID Director Israel Cronk and other officials will open a new seasonal parklet on Glenridge Avenue. The custom designed parklet, located across from 217-219 Glenridge Avenue, will feature free wifi and community seating. The parklet will be up through the fall.

The Glenridge parklet has been sponsored by Schumacher Insurance, the Township of Montclair, the Montclair Center BID and TeknoGrid. It was designed and constructed by Shaun Killman, a custom fabrication company. Wifi was provided by TeknoGrid of Newark, NJ.

Parklets are sidewalk extensions that provide more space and amenities for pedestrians. The Glenridge parklet occupies two former parking spaces on Glenridge Avenue, off Bloomfield Avenue.

"Ever since we moved our insurance agency into Montclair, the town welcomed us with open arms,” said Honey Correia, president of Schumacher Insurance Agency. One of our biggest motivations to build this parklet was to give back to the community. Not only did it add to Montclair's character, but it also creates a unique space for people to hang out."

“As part of its smart-city initiative, Montclair has partnered with TeknoGrid to provide free public WiFi service to the parklet, promoting neighborhood vitality, business, and quality of life,” said TeknoGrid president Marland “M.J.” Jenkins.

“It’s a great opportunity to create something positive for the community to enjoy,” commented master builder Shaun Killman

Representing the over 300 merchants and over 200 property owners in downtown Montclair, the Montclair Center BID is directly responsible for the music performances, beautification projects including plants and decorations, banners, way-finding signage and maintenance throughout the district. By encouraging dynamic collaboration, the Montclair Center BID also creates exciting events for shoppers and tourists, marketing opportunities for retailers and restaurateurs, and actively seeks to improve the area for businesses and residents.
