The 17th annual Walker-Thon is set for Friday September 22, 2017 at 6:00 PM starting at John H. Walker Middle School on Franklin Ave. The walk is a fundraiser to raise funds to benefit students in their pursuit of educational goals. The foundation gives $1,000 scholarships to graduating seniors to help pursue higher education according to Walt Smith, president of the foundation.

In addition, the John H. Walker Memorial Foundation, Inc. has established awards to be given to a boy and a girl from the sixth grade class in each of Nutley's elementary schools as well as from the graduating eighth grade class of John H. Walker Middle School. Each of the recipients will receive a savings bond and a Walker Foundation pin and certificate.

These awards will be made to honor the memory of Mr. John H. Walker who served as one of Nutley's best?loved educators for many years.

Mr. Walker has been described by many as a man who exhibited exemplary qualities of citizenship, leadership, compassion, teamwork and respect. In order to promote and encourage students to strive for these same ideals these elementary and middle school awards for 2018, will be bestowed upon students who possess these game qualities.

The "Walker?thon" will begin at John H. Walker Middle School at 6:00 and will continue through the area nearby and wind around and finish back a Walker School. Friday September22, 2017. Rain or shine the walk will be held.

Registration forms will be available at all the Schools. The fee for registering is $25.00 for adults and $10 for students. All who register will receive a shirt, water and refreshments. We encourage all friends of Mr. Walker to participate with us on the 22nd.
