When you see the center of the street painted green in any town, you know it must be close to St. Patrick’s Day.

This year marks the 37th annual St. Patrick's Day parade in Nutley.

Do not miss this festive event, where everyone is Irish for a day.

The kick off is at 1:00 p.m. on Franklin Avenue, on Saturday, March 7.

The Nutley Irish American Alliance has been throwing this official parade since 1979, when resident Richie Clark said he wanted to start the parade. Two young men, Joe "Muggs" McGuiness and Paul Denkinger, ran with Clark’s notion and told Judge Robert Citrino. Turned out Citrino grew up with a dad who adored parades, and this Irish dream became a multi-national reality.

Planning for such a major parade starts almost right after each year’s parade is successfully offered to the public. Then, besides vetting dignitaries that will proudly march in the St. Patrick’s Day Parade, the Nutley Irish American Alliance also hosts parties and events to raise both support and money.

This year the organization awarded four scholarships to the following Nutley High School Seniors. This year’s recipients are Allison Connor, Brian Devine, Jenna O’Halloran, and Erin Toye.

See you there!
