Nutley Police Blotter July 13 - July 18

7/13/13 – 00:56

Police responded to the area of High Street on an accident, on High Street, where the auto hit a retaining wall and tree. Officers detected an odor of an alcoholic beverage coming from the driver. After further investigation, Kaseem Jenkins, age 24, of Montclair was placed under arrest and charged with driving while intoxicated. He was issued summonses and advised of his mandatory court date before being released from custody.

7/13/13 – 11:29

A call regarding a shoplifting incident, in the area of Harrison St, was received at Headquarters. Officers stopped the suspect in the area of Franklin Avenue and he was found to have the items in question in a backpack. Gian Alexis Gesualdo, age 33, of Newark was placed under arrest and transported to Headquarters without incident. He was found to have a warrant out of Newark, who released Mr. Gesualdo on his own recognizance, after notifying him of his new mandatory Court date. He was charged with shoplifting, out of Nutley, and released with his new mandatory Court date. All items were placed into evidence.

7/14/13 – 08:16

Two homes located on Satterthwaite Avenue reported criminal mischief to their properties. The homeowners stated that the landscaping in their front yards was vandalized. One lamp was smashed, unknown value at the time of the report, a sign that indicates the address of the home, and 3 shrubs were ripped out of the ground, and scattered around the area. The shrubs were placed back where they came from.

7/14/13 – 19:01

While in Yantacaw Park, three juveniles were approached by a juvenile actor that solicited them for money with the promise of a truck pulling up with new sneakers. The victims gave what money they had and then the actor asked for one of their phones to make contact with the person that had the sneakers and the actor fled the area on foot with the money and the cell phone. Police were able to find the juvenile actor based on the description provided by the victims. The juvenile was brought to Headquarters where charges were filed. Court dates are pending.

7/14/13 – 18:46

Officers responded to Rheinheimer Park on a call regarding several actors possibly trying to gain entry into the field house. Upon arrival Officers found several juveniles near the building and one rolling a cigarette containing marijuana. All juveniles were transported to Headquarters where their parents were notified to pick them up. Charges are pending on one of the juveniles in possession of the marijuana. No entry appeared to be gained into the building.

7/16/13 – 07:27

Property damage was reported in the area of Prospect St. A tree from a neighbor’s property fell and landed in the pool and broke the fence between the two properties. A note was left for the homeowner to contact the Police Dept. Could not be determined if the pool was damaged at time of report.

7/16/13 – 16:30

Criminal mischief was reported in the area of Ohlson Avenue. Victim stated the rear window of the driver side of their car had been damaged causing it to shatter. There did not seem to be anything taken from the car. Officers advised the victim to contact police if they notice that any of their belongings were taken.

7/17/13 – 15:04

A call regarding a suspicious party in the area of Beech Street was reported to Headquarters. A check of the party revealed an active warrant out of Madison. Ronald Pope, 46, of Nutley, was transported to Headquarters where the warrant was satisfied and he was released.

7/17/13 – 19:35

While investigating an incident, it was revealed that the victim of the incident had provided a false identity to Detectives, due to outstanding active warrants, and was wanted by the Union County Sheriff Department. Mr. Anthony Alicea, age 20, of Elizabeth, was placed under arrest and the Union County Sherriff Office was contacted and stated they would be extraditing him to their jurisdiction. Mr. Alicea was released to Sheriff Officers.

7/17/13 – 22:20

The victim of a theft reported the incident to Police. A black electric assist bicycle was stolen from the back of a business storage area located on Franklin Avenue. The estimated cost of the bike is approximately $600.00. The victim will contact Headquarters when they find the identifying data pertaining to the bike.

7/18/13 – 14:09

Police received a walk-in report regarding a fraud. The victim states that their company delivered goods upwards of $4,000.00 to a local eatery who stopped payment on the items, once they were received. Several attempts were made to make arrangements for payment to no avail. The victim was advised of their right to sign a complaint with the Court.
