Please note: All parties placed under arrest have been assigned a Court date and remain innocent until proven guilty of those charges at their respective hearing.

4/16/16

*****Suspicious Vehicle – Chase Street – Headquarters received an anonymous call on a vehicle parked and unoccupied with the engine running. Officers observed the vehicle running with the key in the ignition. Unable to raise the owner, Officers shut off and secured the vehicle. Shortly thereafter the owner was found and the key was returned. Nothing further.

4/17/16

****Utility Incident – Manhattan Court - Officers and the Nutley Fire Department responded to the area on a report of water running in a vacant home. The sound of running water could be heard coming from inside the residence. Upon entry into the home a water pipe was found to have been ruptured in the basement. Water and electric were turned off by Nutley Fire and the residence secured. The owner was notified of the incident of approximately 1 foot of water covering the entire basement floor.

*******Noise Complaint – Raymond Avenue - Officers were dispatched to the area regarding a noise complaint. Upon arrival very loud music could be heard coming from inside the residence. The homeowner became irate when they were advised of the complaint and refused to turn down the music. The homeowner was issued a Town Ordinance for excessive noise from a mechanical music device. Nothing further.

4/18/16

*******Motor Vehicle Stop – Route 21 – A motor vehicle stop resulted in the arrest of Juan Suarez, 56, of Lodi. He was transported to Headquarters without incident and issued summons for Driving while Intoxicated, Speeding, Careless Driving,

Unsafe Lane Change, Failure to Possess Registration Card, and Failure to Possess Insurance Card. He was released with his mandatory Court date.

******Property Damage – Franklin Avenue – Officers responded to the location regarding a report of property damage to the railings in the parking area of the business. It was observed that one of the customers may have drove into the railing where there appeared to be minor scratches, a bent pole, and a section of railing no longer connected to the support pole. The amount of damage could not be determined at the time of the report. There were no vehicles in the parking lot that displayed any damage. No further action.

4/19/16

*******Theft of Services – Washington Avenue – the owner of the building wanted to report that one of the tenants was stealing electrical power from the building. Observed was a black electrical cord coming from inside the actor’s apartment that was plugged into the outlet in the hallway. Officers tried to contact the resident with negative results. The owner was advised of their right to sign a complaint with the Nutley Municipal Court for theft of services.

********Theft – Speer Place – Officers responded to the area regarding a theft of a metal bench and ceramic coffee cup shaped flower pot. Resident stated that they were taken from the side of the residence. The approximate value of the items was $150.00.

******Motor Vehicle Stop – Church Street - While on a traffic enforcement detail for distracted driving Officers observed a silver Lexus passing with the driver using a cellular hand held phone. A motor vehicle stop was initiated and the driver was found to have an active warrant out of Little Falls, NJ. Omar Torres, age 20, of Newark, was placed under arrest and transported to Headquarters without incident. Little Falls Police were contacted and released Mr. Torres on his own recognizance with a new Court date. Additionally, he was issued a cell phone ticket, advised of his new Court date, and transported back to his car.

*********Motor Vehicle Stop – Centre Street – A motor vehicle stop resulted in the arrest of Nikoloz Tskitishvili, 33, of Monroe, NY, for an outstanding warrant out of Bordentown. He was transported to Headquarters without incident and able to post the appropriate bail. Mr. Tskitishvili was issued a Nutley summons for failure to wear seat belt, advised to contact Bordentown Municipal Court to set a new Court date and released.

******Theft from Vehicle – Passaic Avenue - Headquarters received a report regarding a theft from vehicle. The victim stated that when they left their vehicle it was locked and the windows were all closed. When they returned to their vehicle the windows were down and the vehicle was rummaged through, mainly the glove compartment. There were no signs of forced entry or visible damage to the car, and nothing appears to be missing. No further action taken.

*******Shoplifting – Franklin Avenue - the store manager of an establishment located on Franklin Avenue reported a shoplifting incident in which a customer placed Gas-X and two chocolate Hershey bars in their purse and did not pay for the items when they left the store. Ms. Veronica Casha, 44, of Nutley, was placed under arrest and transported to Headquarters without incident. She was charged with Shoplifting, advised of her Court date, and released.

********Theft – Franklin Avenue – Officers responded regarding a lost wallet that was believed to be taken while the victim was shopping in the store. There was no evidence of anyone in the store having taken the wallet, but the victim did have their eye on it while shopping and only looked away in one location. The contents of the wallet were inventoried for the report but no approximate value was available for the wallet. Victim was advised of how to obtain a copy of their report and given transportation to their home.

********Fraud – Headquarters received a report of fraud from the victim who was advised that they had an outstanding debt of approximately $4,000 for a West Virginia School they never attended. The school loan was taken out through a lending company who confirmed the student enrolled by the victim’s name and social security number. The credit report company confirmed that the loan was taken out in September of 2015. Investigation to continue.

4/21/16

********Motor Vehicle Stop – Crestwood Avenue – A motor vehicle investigation resulted in the arrest of Christopher Liloia, 27, of Belleville, for an outstanding warrant out of Newark. He was transported to Police Headquarters without incident and was able to post the appropriate bail. Mr. Liloia was released and advised to contact the Newark Municipal Court to satisfy the warrant. Nothing further.

*****Field Interview – River Road - A field interview resulted in the arrest of Joseph Reid, 33, of Rutherford, for outstanding warrants out of Ridgefield Borough, Rutherford Borough, Gloucester Township, and Nutley. He was placed under arrest and transported to Headquarters without incident. He was able to post the appropriate bail for all warrants, was advised of his Nutley Court date and was informed to contact the other jurisdictions to schedule those new Court dates as well before his release.

********Suspicious Incident – A resident reported receiving a phone call from someone who identified himself “on behalf of the IRS” and was inquiring about unpaid taxes estimated at $6,000. The victim ended the phone call abruptly and contacted Police. The victim was advised to monitor their credit report for any abnormal activity, as well as putting 'flags' and pass words on all their existing accounts. The victim will also be notifying the credit bureaus as they monitor for such abnormal activity. Officers made them aware that this is a current ongoing scam, and that there should be no information or moneys released as the US Treasury / IRS operate via US Mail and in person. The victim was advised that should there be any future fraudulent activity, to contact police immediately for documentation purposes and legal action.

4/22/16

*******Suspicious Incident – Evelyn Place – The homeowner reported that they heard the side door on their garage open and when they went outside observed their garage door open. It should be noted that garage is not attached to the home. The victim stated that the garage door is electric and can only be opened from inside near the door which was opened. There were no signs of forced entry on either door and nothing seemed to be disturbed. The victim was advised that if they notice anything missing or further incidents to contact Headquarters.

*******Property Damage – Witherspoon Avenue – Officers responded to a report of property damage. The homeowner reports that the block tower on their retaining wall on the south side of their driveway was partially tipped over. It is not known how the tower was damaged and there were no signs of tire tracks on the grass observed. The victim wanted the incident documented because the cost of repair is most likely less than their homeowner’s deductible No further Police action needed at this time.
