Nutley High has instant success on Instant Day

Posted

Over 100 Nutley High School seniors participated in an Instant Deci- sion Day hosted by the guidance department on December 5. Bloom- field College, Caldwell College, Centenary College, Fairleigh Dickin- son University, Felician College, Kean University, New Jersey City University, New Jersey Institute of Technology, Seton Hall Universi- ty, and William Paterson University participated in this event.

Eligible seniors had an opportunity to apply to as many of these col- leges as they chose and were given an appointment to meet with on- site representatives during the school day. College admissions staff offered private interviews with each student to discuss their academic record, resume of activities, and college goals. Many of our students were offered admission in addition to scholarship monies with renew- al possibilities.

Instant Decision Day is perhaps the most exciting and rewarding day in the Guidance Department. It is a culmination and celebration of our students’ hard work and dedication to their academics. As coun- selors, it is a moving experience to see your children beaming as they exit this college interview session. Their excitement and joy at being able to post their “acceptance flag” in our hallway is immensely grati- fying for each of them.

Our Instant Decision Days are positive learning experiences exposing students to the interview process. We are proud of all our students and how they conducted themselves. All of the college admissions of- ficers were impressed with the maturity and academic achievements of our Nutley High School students.

111 students sat for interviews and the following results were achieved:

223 acceptances $9,380 saved in college application fees (most fees were waived) $2,508 saved in College Board/SAT fees for score reporting Total saved: $11,888 Scholarships offered from Bloomfield College, Caldwell College, Fair- leigh Dickinson University, Kean University, and Seton Hall Universi- ty: guaranteed first year scholarships—$1,378,500; projected schol- arships over four years—$5,514,000.
