Nutley Little Theatre has completed casting for its production of the ground-breaking musical comedy, “Falsettos,” opening Friday, June 13 at the NLT Barn, 47 Erie Place, Nutley.

The cast includes Jim DeBlasi of Yonkers, NY, Kim Mesiti of Bloomfield, Jeffrey Gallup of Montville, Paul Aiello of Jersey City, Ginny Loggins of Bloomfield, Jodi Freeman Maloy of Cedar Grove, and Craig Ernest Woodward of Little Falls.

The director and set designer is Ron Mulligan of Bloomfield and Marsha Schreier of Verona is the musical director. The stage manager is Fred Halperin of Morristown. Lighting designer is Sarah Halperin of Morristown. Robin Matthews of Kinnelon is costumer designer.

Long before TV’s “Modern Family,” there was “Falsettos.” This intimate and unique musical both anticipated and celebrated the changing composition of what makes a family. The story starts with a gay man who is longing for a “tight-knit family” and culminates with a jubilantly unorthodox Bar Mitzvah that brings together his son, his lover, his ex-wife and her new husband (his ex-therapist), and a lesbian couple as one big, happy clan. Winner of two 1992 Tony Awards (Best Book and Best Score), the New York Times called it “exhilarating and heartbreaking.” Music and lyrics are by William Finn, and the book is by William Finn and James Lapine.

Evening performances at Nutley Little Theatre will be on June 13, 14, 19, 20, 21, 27 and 28. (For this show, the Thursday evening performance that NLT usually schedules in the last week of a show will instead be on June 19, in the second week.) Matinee performances are on June 15, 22 and 28. Evening performances have an 8 p.m. curtain and matinees are at 2 p.m. Ticket prices are $18. There is a $2 discount (matinees only) for students and senior citizens who show IDs at the box office.
