MTAS/Chrill Care Bring PetAid to Homebound Residents

Posted

The Montclair Township Animal Shelter is partnering with Chrill Care's Mobile Meals of Essex program to help the homebound residents they serve keep their beloved pets healthy and at home. The new initiative – PetAid Montclair – will provide nutritious pet food and other pet care necessities to those who are unable to go out and get them.

“Very often our elderly or disabled residents struggle to care for their pets due to a lack of resources. PetAid Montclair will provide some of those resources which will make it easier to keep pets at home,” said Montclair Animal Shelter Director Niki Dawson.

PetAid Montclair will be available to the elderly (60 +) and disabled who are homebound and participate in Chrill Care’s Mobile Meals of Essex program. Individuals must share a home with a pet and they must reside in Montclair, Verona or Nutley. PetAid Montclair will provide pet food and supplies that will arrive with meals delivered by the Mobile Meals of Essex staff on their regularly scheduled deliveries Monday through Friday, between 10 am and 2 pm.

No fees are charged for the service.

To participate in the program, please call the Montclair Township Animal Shelter at 973-744-8601. Tell the staff about your companion animal, pocket pet or fish. Shelter staff will put together a kit with pet food appropriate for your pet, as well as necessary supplies for his/her care such as litter, toys and/or treats.

“Our animal companions play such an important role in our lives, for our physical health and emotional well-being,” said Niki. “Our goal with PetAid Montclair is to ensure that people and pets are kept together,” said Niki.
