Essex County Executive Joseph N. DiVincenzo, Jr. and Essex County Sheriff Armando Fontoura issued a snow emergency would be in effect from Monday, January 26th at 4 p.m. to Wednesday, January 28th at 9 a.m. Weather forecasts call for a blizzard to bring over a foot of snow to the area. DiVincenzo and Fontoura are asking motorists to avoid parking their vehicles on county roadways so Public Works crews can remove snow more efficiently.

“As a matter of public safety, we ask that motorists do not park their vehicles on County roads from Monday, January 26th at 4 p.m. to Wednesday, January 28th at 9 a.m. This will enable us to clear snow and spread salt from curb to curb so our roads are passable,” DiVincenzo said. “We encourage our residents to remain safe during these upcoming snow events and only travel if it is absolutely necessary,” he added.

According to weather forecasts utilized by the County, the blizzard will bring over a foot of snow and high winds.

DiVincenzo also reminded property owners and residents to help maximize public safety by not shoveling or plowing snow from their private properties onto county roadways. Snow removed from sidewalks, driveways and parking lots should be kept on-site.

Essex County maintains about 215 miles of roads.
