Do you know where YOUR food is from? Meet The Real Co - 100% Single Origin Foods

A bowl of The Real Co White Basmati Rice, which is from one farm and one source. It was fluffy, yummy and disappeared fast, since my kids adored it.

100% Single Origin foods are any food products grown, or mined as in salt, in one farm. There is currently a new certification being developed by The Real Co to create an official sticker and certification on all packages of foods that are grown in one farm.

Consider coffee, cocoa or even wine and champagne - these are all 100% Single Source products.

Eating healthy has never been so popular.
From gluten-free foods, including cookies and pasta and breads, to
organic fruits and veggies, Non-GMO milk, and so on, it seems as if the human race has woken up and realized it is better to eat wholesome, natural foods.
But when you enjoy that Organic muffin, vegan of course, with your Non-GMO milk, take a moment to ask: where does this food come from?
Today, I did a little experiment in my own kitchen. Here is what I did - and did not - find.
My fish, Halibut, is from Whole Foods, from Canada, and was caught wild (from the ocean).
My cheese is from Norway, my butter is from who-knows-where and my cherries are from California - and my vegetables, of which there are many, are from listed states, but no farms are listed in particular. I have no clue as to where my potatoes or rice are from. Was my rice grown on 5 farms and then aggegrated to create my one package? And if so, why?
And what about my sugar - where does that come from? I really do not know! The idea that my foods, even if labelled organic and Non-GMO, may come from different areas of the country or a state and then are packed together in some kind of mixed-up creation does not sound right to me.
Turns out my focus on health and organic foods did not include the origin of the foods I eat every day. For all I know, my "healthy" foods just may be a hodge-podge of assorted similar foods grown or packaged in numerous locations, from many sources.
A cool company that is hitting the U.S. right now may be about to change all that.
The Real Food Co (click here to visit their site) is now in the U.S. Their concept is unique and transparent: They source each food from one farm and one location. And, if they grow so fast they need to expand, they will gladly keep each farm's foods separate, in their labeled packages.
This is the the birth of something big here, called 100% Single Origin Food.
The idea is that though we may enjoy more natural foods, we do not necessarily know if our foods are from one farm or even one state.
The Real Co is looking to change all that, by not only bringing food from one farm to our markets, but also by labeling each package with where the food was grown - or in the case of salt - mined.
For now, this forward thinking company is offering only three products:
Himalayan Pink Salt, mined by hand (no machinery used); Organic Raw Cane Sugar and White Basmati Rice.
Each package is cleverly designed, with a clear window showing off the products inside.
Refreshingly, the list of ingredients on each package is simple and straightforward: just the food you desire - no additives, no chemicals, no pesticides and no GMO.
What I really liked about the Organic Raw Cane Sugar is that is instantly dissolved in both my hot AND my cold iced coffees!
My eyes are now open to the idea of 100% Single Origin Foods.
When I met with one of the owners last week, he said it is their mission to bring not only their own Real Co Inc brand to the U.S. but also to develop an official 100% Single Origin Food label for the entire food industry. As per pricing, I asked if this transparent model of sending food directly from  the farm to our markets will be affordable. Since the middlemen are not part of the cost equation, the cost of The Real Co 100% Single Origin foods are lower than others - though each market must create their own sell price.

“We are a company founded on the notion that transparency is vital, and that consumers have the right to know where their foods are from,” says Belal Elbanna, CEO of The Real Co Inc. “The Real Co foods come right from their source and offer best of class products at best prices.”

Visit their website. You can see where their foods are sold locally, or order on either Amazon or healthygoodness.com.
