"Code Red" Alert system coming to Caldwell residents

Posted

Turns out you do not need a special Batman phone to call in - or out - for help during emergencies.
Caldwell is launching a modern digital and App system called "Code Red".
If you have a landline phone, you still need to  sign up and get alerts and notice of emergency and other important information right to your phone.
For the growing number of cell phone users who do not have a landline, you can opt in by going to the Caldwell website, probably in a month or so.
The system will bring Caldwell into the digital and App information age.
Instead of sitting in the dark during power outages or storms, you will now have the ability to get updates from town hall.
During Hurricane Sandy, The Jersey Tomato Press (JTP) used a special App 24/7, for 10 straight days, keeping over 500,000 New Jersey residents notified in real time as to their power outage status, emergency info, etc.
This new "Code Red" system, especially when paired with an App, is a potentially life saving tool.
The JTP App worked in spite of the hurricane - and students as far as Boston used it to tell the Jersey families they were safe - a week before power was restored.
Updates to follow.

From the "Code Red" website:

A brief history.
In the early 1990’s, the founders of Emergency Communications Network pioneered technology for the automated delivery of recorded voice messages to both answering devices and live call recipients. The call progress detection and methodologies have been awarded several U.S. Patents over the years. As part of the product development cycle for this technology, our founders were also building and maintaining a wholly owned telephony network which serves as the backbone of all ECN products.
By 1998, they were ready to take on another challenge and established the Software as a Service (SaaS) model for community wide emergency notification. This new use of technology allowed municipalities to communicate with residents at previously unheard of speeds and levels of accuracy. The growth of this business was exponential, and within a few short years Emergency Communications Network became the largest and most relied upon emergency notification provider in the Country.

Emergency Communications Network leverages the benefits

•Decades of experience and innovation in the telecommunications industry
•Knowledge gained from having launched over a billion calls
•Proven track record of successfully operating under pressure during emergency situations
•Privately owned, dedicated network infrastructure
