Caldwell woman and Maplewood teacher, Nicole Dufault, accused of having sex with 3 Maplewood students

A 34 year old Caldwell resident has been accused of having sex with underage students in Maplewood. High School language arts teacher

Nicole Dufault, 34, of Caldwell, was arrested at home after school Wednesday night. She has been a teacher for 9 years.

The Essex County Prosecutor’s Office has reports Dufault has been charged withmultiple counts of aggravated sexual assault and endangering the welfare of a child.

The accusations claim Dufault, a high school teacher in Maplewood, had both oral sex and intercourse with students numerous times both in her car and in the Columbia School, a public high school in Maplewood.

The victims are 15 year old boys.

Authorities report these incidents occurred over the course of the 2013 and 2014 school years, both during the academic year proper and the summer school months.

Now, after being arrested, the two young children of Dufault have been taken away from Dufault.

She is now being held in the Essex County Correctional Facility in Newark where bail has been set at $500,000 bail.

When word broke of this news, both superintendent of schools at South Orange/Maplewood Acting Superintendent James G. Memoli and Columbia High School Principal Elizabeth Aaron spoke to the entire school and also released a statement and letter sent to all parents, which read in part, "“The CHS administrative team, guidance counselors, student assistance counselors, school social workers, and teachers are actively supporting students and staff impacted by events,” the letter said. “If your child is showing signs of stress in reaction to the events or the investigation, please reach out to his or her guidance counselor or a member of the administrative team.”
