The Boy Scouts of America has reversed their rules, and as of yesterday, allow gay male leaders into the club.

The executive board voted 45-12 to now allow gay leaders, though this ruling also allows a loophole: to exclude gay leaders for "religious reasons" for clubs that request this exclusion.

After the announcement was officially made Monday, the Mormon Church sent out a statement, writing "The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is deeply troubled by today’s vote. When the leadership of the church resumes its regular schedule of meetings in August, the century-long association with scouting will need to be examined."

Mormons are famous for their role in the Boy Scouts, since boys from Mormon families are usually scouts, and comprise almost 20 percent of the national membership for the Boy Scouts.

Currently, there are over 2,612,000 Boy Scouts in the U.S.
