When 28-year old Lee Caraballo of Newark carjacked a Rutgers student

in West Orange in November, 2012, he also stole the student's iphone. Turns out this newly convicted carjacker was using something many techie-savvy people use nowadays: an iphone.

Essex County authorities confirmed the iphone was part of the successful

search for the actor who committed this crime in West Orange, since they used the "fine my iphone" feature to capture Caraballo.

U.S. Attorney Paul J. Fishman said the "find my iphone" app lead the police to Caraballo, who was convicted this week and is now facing sentencing.

His jail term will be up to 15 years for the carjacking and also up to another 7-years to life in his weapons charges.

Scheduling is planned for February 23.
