6% For Sixty - Fairway Market offers discounts for seniors

Sixty may be the new forty, but we could all use a break when it comes to buying our healthy groceries. Fairway Market has launched an exciting and timely program for anyone over sixty.
Every Tuesday and Wednesday you can get an extra 6% off your entire purchase that day. When I recently visited the store in Woodland Park and talked with Nancy Gallin,
the Community & Customer Relations director, she explained.
“We wanted to do something for our customers who are coming to Fairway and enjoying all of our fresh produce, our fresh meats, fish, and all of our products including the Cafe meals,” she said. “What better way to welcome them than to give customers over 60 a full 6 percent discount?”
And, to add to this deal, Fairway is also offering a 10 percent discount to anyone 60 or older for any Fairway's Catering - any day of the week. With more holidays upon us, this is great news.
Fairway Market, if you haven’t shopped there yet, is a go-to destination for all ages. When you first enter their brightly lit store, it becomes instantly obvious that this is no ordinary supermarket, but instead an authentic “farm to table” store. Bright, colorful rows of produce are meticulously placed in row after row in this welcoming store. But that’s not all : the prices are spectacular. When I first s tarted shopping at Fairway, I was a little afraid to look at the prices. It just looked so high-end. The variety was beyond compare to the other local supermarkets in our area. But when I compared prices I almost did a jig, right there in front of the strawberries (which happened to be on sale for 3 large packages for $5).
The prices are not just less than my other shops, but actually very affordable for anyone looking to purchase healthy foods for their family.
Now, with the 6 for sixty program, I have a feeling slightly older shoppers who want to whip up a gourmet meal will be thrilled to shop at Fairway.
When I asked how they could afford the discount, Gallin said they were running as usual numerous programs, including their charitable endeavors (more on that in another issue), and had started to talking about the baby boomer demographics.
“We have people of all ages shop here, because of our healthy foods and wide variety,”she noted. “But we started to talk about how people who are sixty or over, some retired and many working, could use a break. Even though we already have such great pricing we wanted to share this savings for them. It is another way of giving back.”
Hovering on the brink of 50-something, this reporter for the first time is looking forward (dare I say it?) to getting older.
As a committed food-lover and dedicated volunteer in our local Rotary Club of Montclair, I can tell you that this is not just a supermarket. Fairway Market was a big part of this year's Taste of Montclair, part of the Rotary Club of Montclair, and with their help, the club already donated $15,000 to local food pantries and kitchens. For the first time, a business selling the very foods we eat to nourish and delight our families has created a fun, welcoming, organized and totally pleasant spot for anyone - of any age - to find both beloved classic foods and also new ones.
So bring it on 60 - and until then, if you are 60 or over, click here to sign up and save.
Fairway Market has numerous locations. The one closest to Nutley, Montclair, and West Essex is located on Route 46 East, in Woodland Park, in the same shopping area as Kohls.
