MONTCLAIR LIBRARY FRIENDS TO HOLD VOLUNTEER EXPO

Posted

The Montclair Library Friends will hold a Volunteer Expo on Sunday, December 3 to recruit volunteers for the Montclair Public Library. This event will be held in the Main Library auditorium, 50 South Fullerton Avenue, Montclair, NJ 07042. Attendees will learn about volunteer opportunities including a new initiative: a Library Welcome Desk. According to Library Director Peter Coyl, “We are so grateful for our volunteers who have always worked hard to promote and support the Library. They are important members of the Montclair Public Library family.”

Attendees will learn about volunteer opportunities including greeting guests at special events and lectures, reading stories to children, writing articles for the Montclair Library Friends e-newsletter and helping with Library projects.

Regarding the Welcome Desk initiative, Assistant Library Director Janet Torsney said, “There are so many wonderful things going on at our library, we decided to have a welcome desk where people can come to find out answers to questions like, ‘Where is the French class?’ and ‘Where can I pick up my museum pass?’ Our volunteers are perfect candidates to handle the desk because they are knowledgeable, cordial and committed to our library.”

The Expo program includes a presentation by Peter Coyl on the Library’s 125th anniversary celebration next year. Janet Torsney will describe the Library’s plans for the Welcome Desk. There will also be a presentation by Reference Head Chelsea Dodd on historic Montclair images from the Library’s archive. At 3:30pm, Expo attendees will have an opportunity to take a behind the scenes tour of the library.

Event is free of charge and open to all. Registration is requested. While walk-ins are welcome, it would be appreciated if you would register by clicking on the following link: https://goo.gl/oeMtXn. Refreshments will be served.
