The Joint Institute Opens at Saint Barnabas Medical Center Relief for Knee and Hip Pain

Saint Barnabas Medical Center is pleased to announce the opening of The Joint Institute. The Joint Institute program provides a personal approach for Joint Replacement surgery and recovery. Featuring private rooms for individuals receiving knee or hip replacements, the program offers a focused approach geared at getting joint replacement patients back to enjoying a life without joint pain.

Each year, hundreds of thousands of people undergo hip or knee replacement surgery. Primary candidates for surgery are individuals with chronic joint pain whose daily activities are limited or eliminated due to pain. The surgery aims to relieve pain, restore independence, and return you to work and other daily activities.

Individuals who have surgery at The Joint Institute receive a vast amount of education to prepare them for this journey. In addition to the education provided in their surgeon’s office, every patient attends an intense education class prior to surgery in preparation for their surgery and recovery. A binder filled with information to ease the recovery process is also distributed in the class. Each patient is encouraged to bring a support partner who will be trained as a “coach” to assist them during the recovery.

The Joint Institute offers a rigorous schedule of physical and occupational therapy for patients beginning the day after surgery. This is an intense and clinically proven program designed to get patients up and moving as quickly as possible. For more information about the program or to attend a hip or knee pain seminar, contact The Joint Institute Coordinator, Brian George at 973-322-9908.
